Debut Book Review: Yesterday's Tomorrow by Catherine West

There are some books that grab you by the heart and never let go, even after you’ve read the last page and closed the book for the last time. Yesterday’s Tomorrow, Catherine West’s debut novel, is one such book.

From the back cover:
     Vietnam, 1967.

Independent, career-driven journalist Kristin Taylor wants two things: to honor her father's memory by becoming an award-winning overseas correspondent and to keep tabs on her only brother, Teddy, who signed up for the war against their mother's wishes.
Brilliant photographer Luke Maddox, silent and brooding, exudes mystery.    Kristin is convinced he's hiding something. Willing to risk it all for what they believe in, Kristin and Luke engage in their own tumultuous battle until, in an unexpected twist, they’re forced to work together. Ambushed by love, they must decide whether or not to set aside their own private agendas for the hope of tomorrow that has captured their hearts.

Catherine West has written a powerful and moving book with a descriptive language that will transport you to Vietnam where you walk the streets of Saigon…the sights…the sounds…the smells… nothing like you’ve ever seen or heard or smelled before. A love language that will show you the beauty of true love between Kristin and Luke, but even more so between God and us. There is a depth and intensity in the characters that is normally found only in books by more seasoned authors.

This is a book you will want to read and an author you will want to watch.

Catherine has graciously offered to donate a copy of Yesterday’s Tomorrow to one very blessed reader! To enter the drawing, leave your name and your email address so I can notify you if you win. No email – no win. Drawing will be held on Monday, March 21. This contest is open to residents of the continental U.S. and is void where prohibited by law.

Educated in Bermuda, England and Canada, Catherine holds a degree in English from the University of Toronto. When she’s not at the computer working on her next story, you can find her taking her Border Collie for long walks or tending to her roses and orchids. Catherine and her husband live on the beautiful island of Bermuda, with their two college-aged children. Catherine is a member of Romance Writers of America, and American Christian Fiction Writers, and is a founding member of International Christian Fiction Writers. Catherine’s debut novel Yesterday’s Tomorrow, releases March 15th, through Oak Tara Publishers.

Edwina, Thanks for sharing this review of Cathy's debut novel. We met through our mutual agent, and over the years I've assured her that if she persisted her talent would eventually be shared with the world...and now it is. It couldn't happen to a nicer person (even though she doesn't live in Texas).
